Minimalist or Retro? You Decide

Modern furniture tends to follow one of two main trends: minimalist or retro. Minimalist furniture suits smaller spaces such as city studio apartments and is characterised by crisp lines and edges, smooth and shiny surfaces, as well as solid colours, either black, white or even the current trend of bold colours. Because of the sharp lines and corners, however, this style of furnishing isn’t recommended for anyone with children, as you don’t want them running into one of your modern coffee tables and doing themselves an injury. Retro furniture with a modern twist is also ‘de rigueur’. In contrast to the minimalist look, retro styles have curved, flowing lines and are often made from plastic in bright colours or patterns.

While minimalist furniture is great for a tidier and less cluttered feeling home, it can sometimes appear cold or bare without the right touches. There is no reason, however, why your white coffee table has to remain completely empty. Choose one with drawers to hold your clutter, and brighten up the surface with just a few tasteful objets d’art. Adding a couple of framed photographs is also a great way to make your space feel more homely and a thick rug in warm colours can really change the appearance of a room.

At PandonHome you will be able to find beautiful contemporary furniture in both minimalist and retro styles for every room in your home. All our designer furniture is of the best quality, as we only work with the best manufacturers.
