Tips for Giving a Room a Modern Redesign
If you are thinking of redesigning your home but can’t afford to do it all in one go, start with the room that you spend the most time in. For many this will be the living room, but for some it will be the bedroom. Ideally, the best thing to do is to start with a clean slate. Decide on the colours for the walls and flooring if you are changing these. Plain coloured walls with perhaps one ‘statement’ wall are usual to go with contemporary bedroom furniture or a modern living room style. After all, there is little point in investing in some beautiful contemporary furniture pieces to go in a dull or chintzy wall-papered room.
A modern living room tends to feature high gloss furniture and a leather sofa. Like the walls, there are also a lot of plain block colours used. The key is to add some decorative touches to your room with fabrics and ornaments. Not too many, mind, or your room will start to look untidy – plus there’s more to clean! Stick to one colour scheme too for a really modern feel. Contrasting colours are great such as black and pink or purple, and white and turquoise and will create a beautifully crisp and clean atmosphere. Having cleared the room of all its stuff while you decorate, you are also in a great position to have a good sort through and get rid of anything that’s no longer needed or won’t go with your beautifully decorated new room.
